§ 26. Mr. Christopher Priceasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether Her Majesty's Government will now bring forward in the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill now before Parliament further safeguards for patients in psychiatric hospitals against compulsory treatment.
§ Mr. Geoffrey FinsbergProvision has already been made in the Bill for new safeguards with regard to the treatment of patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1959. These are described in the White Paper "Reform of Mental Health Legislation"—Cmnd. 8405. I hope that the House will shortly be able to debate the matter when the Bill comes before it.
