HC Deb 09 February 1982 vol 17 cc309-10W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will introduce measures to alleviate the problems of small dairy farms of around 60 cows, in view of the decline in their income and general conditions.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

I believe that the steps we have already taken, including the recent increase in the price of liquid milk, take proper account of the present needs of dairy farmers. Moreover, the intervention price level for dairy products will be considered in the European Community price fixing this spring. In any case, we have consistently taken the view that measures of the sort suggested by the hon. Member, whether in a Community or a national context, should not discriminate in favour of particular categories of producer.
