HL Deb 04 February 1982 vol 426 c1476WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will urge the Government of the United States, directly and through the European Community and NATO, to start the postponed talks on the reduction of strategic arms as a contribution to a stable Europe and favourable to a solution of the problems of Poland.

Lord Trefgarne

The Government have often made clear their wish to see strategic arms control negotiations resumed. We welcome the commitment of the United States Government, staged by President Reagan in his speech on 18th November last year, to these negotiations. An agreement would be a major contribution to the stability not only of Europe but of the East/West relationship as a whole.
