HL Deb 04 February 1982 vol 426 c1476WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What consideration they are giving to the relief of registered charities from VAT; and what is the estimated amount of revenue obtained from this source.

The Minister of State, Treasury (Lord Cockfield)

Full and careful consideration is given to all representations received. I regret, however, that I am unable to anticipate my right honourable and learned friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Budget Statement.

I regret that it is not possible to make an accurate estimate of the amount of VAT paid by charities as information is not collected in a form which would enable such an estimate to be made.
