Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will take steps to ensure that National Health Service procedures are amended to enable area administrators of health authorities in Wales to know the numbers of patients treated privately by doctors and specialists employed on a part-time basis by the area health authority.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Health authorities are responsible for ensuring that they have a full record of patients treated privately in National Health Service hospitals. The Welsh Office has impressed on health authorities the need to maintain adequate records.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will take steps to ensure that consultants using National Health Service buildings and equipment for private consultancy work make proper payment to the National Health Service for such facilities.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Payments for the use of National Health Service buildings and equipment used in connection with the consultation and treatment of private patients are mare by the patients themselves. The scale of fees is determined by the Welsh Office. Arrangements for collecting payments are a matter for individual health authorities.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will set up a review committee to investigate the effects
