§ 38. Mr. Sainsburyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on the prospects for securing the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.
§ Mr. HurdThere has so far been no sign of genuine willingness on the part of the Soviet Union to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan, which we regard as the key to a resolution of this protracted crisis. On 29 November, the United Nations General Assembly again voted overwhelmingly for a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan. It remains up to the Soviet Union to respond to this clear call from the international community.
