HC Deb 15 December 1982 vol 34 c179W
17. Dr. J. Dickson Mahon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many jobs have been lost in Scotland by redundancy or closure in the calendar year 1982 to date.

Mr. Younger

There are no comprehensive statistics on redundancies or closures. Between 1 January and 30 September 1982, the last date for which information is available, instances of redundancy involving 10 or more workers notified to the Manpower Services Commission as due to occur in Scotland were expected to result in the loss of 37,176 jobs.
