§ Mr. Iain Millsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what consideration he has given during the period of operation of the Housing Act 1980, to seeking to extend the right-to-buy procedures and discounts to houses built by county councils for their staff.
§ Mr. StanleyCounty councils generally provide accommodation for purposes related to the specific employment of the tenants and for this reason our view remains that county council accommodation as a whole cannot be made subject to the right to buy. However, county councils have discretion to sell houses and flats on right to buy terms, and I hope that wherever possible they will do so.
