HC Deb 03 December 1982 vol 33 cc311-2W
Mr. Graham

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received in respect of the level of fees he will assume will be charged by the Open University for the 1983 academic year; whether his assumptions include fee levels broadly in line with 1982 fee levels; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

Since the announcement last year that the Government's assumed level of Open University tuition fees for 1982 would be £120, compared with £98 for 1981, my right hon. Friend has received some 90 representations protesting about the increase and asking that future increases be kept to a minimum. He has decided that the assumed fee for the academic year 1983 should be held broadly in line with that for 1982 after allowing for inflation. The 1983 level, of which the Open University has been informed, is £127.
