HL Deb 02 August 1982 vol 434 cc662-3WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will amend the regulation which reduces benefit when unemployed persons take education courses to improve their skills or make such persons an equivalent grant to do so.

Lord Trefgarne

An unemployed person who takes an education course may still be able to receive unemployment or supplementary benefit provided that he remains available for work and that he is prepared to give up the course in the event of a suitable job offer being made to him. We have no plans at present to amend the regulations in this respect.
