HL Deb 02 August 1982 vol 434 cc676-7WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether European Governments were consulted before the United States Administration decided to double their neutron warheads for use in Europe; if not, whether the European members of NATO have protested as they did on a previous similar occasion; and whether the United Kingdom concurs in the action of the United States.

Lord Belstead

The United States Administration have told us that they have taken no decision to increase the production of enhanced radiation, or "neutron", warheads. Such a decision, about weapons to be held on United States territory, would in any case be a matter for them. No proposals for the deployment of these warheads in Europe have been made.
