§ Mr. Andrew F. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many certificates of exemption on grounds of low income had been issued on the most recent convenient date; and how many of them had been issued in Stockport, and how many in Greater Manchester.
48W
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeIn the 12-week period ending 16 February 1982, 34,339 certificates of exemption from prescription charges on grounds of low income were issued in England. A certificate covers the holder and his dependants.
Information is not available on how many of these certificates were issued in Stockport and Greater Manchester. However, 3,126 low-income exemption certificates were issued to people in the North-West (Manchester) region, and of these 331 were to people in the areas covered by the departments local offices at Stockport, North and Stockport, South.
As exemption certificates can be valid for up to 12 months there would be many more people exempt on grounds of low income during this same period who received their exemption certificate before that time.
