HC Deb 19 April 1982 vol 22 c48W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the number of Argentine citizens resident in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The labour force survey provides estimates of the number of persons of foreign nationality resident in the United Kingdom, but the sample size is too small to give reliable figures for Argentines. Estimates derived from the labour force survey of 1981 suggest that there were of the order of 15,000 persons resident in the United Kingdom and with the nationality of one or other of the countries of South America. The evidence suggests that only a small minority of these were nationals of Argentina.
