Mr. Pawsey asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing how much each local authority is now spending on civil defence, how much this represents for each person in that area, and how that compares with 1980, 1975 and 1970.

Expenditure by county councils accepted for civil defence grant in 1975–76 and unaudited figures for 1980–81 are shown below. This expenditure expressed on a per capita basis is shown in brackets against each figure. I regret that comparable information for 1970–71 is not available.
