HC Deb 29 October 1981 vol 10 c434W

Mr. David Steel asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the latest maximum variation in petrol prices between those stations retailing in. Edinburgh and those in the Borders; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Younger:

The Government do not control petrol prices or keep detailed records of regional variations.

I recognise the importance of transport costs to many who live and work in the Borders and understand the right hon. Member's concern over petrol price differences between rural and urban areas. These do, however, reflect commercial considerations such as additional delivery costs and low turnover.
