§ Mr. David Steel asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what Government aid is currently available for the construction of either battery cage units or slaughterhouses; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Buchanan-Smith: There are no grants available for the construction of battery cage units. Grants are paid 466W under the redmeat slaughterhouse industry scheme for the improvement and construction of slaughterhouses. This scheme was introduced in 1976 and closed to new applications on 30 November 1980.
