HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 cc393-4W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the latest estimate of the number of houses unfit for human habitation; and how this compares with the figures for each of the past three years.

Sir George Young:

An estimate of 794,000 unfit dwellings in England was made from the 1976 English house condition survey, and the results of the 1981 survey will be available next year. Estimates are not made by my Department for the intervening years.
