HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 cc366-7W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total cost to public funds per annum of the Schools Council.

Dr. Boyson:

In 1980–81, the Schools Council received £1,677,000 as a grant in aid from the Department of Education and Science. It also received £1,615,000 from the local authorities, paid as a deduction from rate support grant under the terms of section 56(9) of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980.

Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in the Official Report the members of the Schools Council and their respective salaries.

Dr. Boyson:

The chairman of the Schools Council and members of its various committees are listed in the council's annual report, which is available in the Library. None receives a salary in respect of service with the Schools Council.

Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in the Official Report the reports that have been issued by the Schools Council; and what action has been taken as a result.

Dr. Boyson:

The Schools Council's annual reports list the many reports which have been issued by the council or on its behalf. The findings of a study on the impact of the council's work form an appendix to the recently published report on the review of the Schools Council by Mrs. N. K. Trenaman.
