HC Deb 28 October 1981 vol 10 c382W
Mr. Concannon

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list in the Official Report the numbers and the percentage of the total Northern Ireland work force in full-time employment at the following dates; September 1981, January 1981, July 1980, January 1980, July 1979, January 1979, July 1978, January 1978 and July 1977.

Mr. Adam Butler:

The information is not available in the form required as the last census of employment was conducted in June 1978 and statistics of the self-employed do not distinguish between full and part-time work.

The table below gives a breakdown of the Northern Ireland work force for June 1978, the only date since July 1977 for which information is available on full-time employment:

Self-employed (full-time and part-time) 75,895
Employees in employment (full-time) 415,081
Employees in employment (part-time) 88,130
Unemployed 64,658
643,764

Figures are not yet available from the census of employment being carried out to September 1981.
