HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 c241W

Mr. Carter-Jones asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the number of pregnancies terminated in 1980 because of (a) maternal rubella disease, (b) maternal rubella contact and (c) maternal rubella immunisation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten:

The information is not held centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Carter-Jones asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many cases of rubella were reported in 1980; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten:

Rubella is not a notifiable disease in Northern Ireland. A campaign to improve the take-up of rubella vaccination was begun in 1979, and the information available shows that take-up increased by one-third between 1978 and 1980.
