HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 cc221-2W

Miss Richardson asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what are the safeguards against the disclosure of confidential personal information stored on the police national computer and in intelligence files to unauthorised persons;

(2) whether unchecked telephone callers have been given confidential personal information stored on the police national computer and local intelligence files.

Mr. Whitelaw:

The police national computer system has electronic, physical and procedural safeguards. My Department has asked for reports from chief officers of certain forces on recent allegations that information has been disclosed to unauthorised persons over the telephone.
