HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 c250W

Mr. Ernie Ross asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will establish a school of chiropody in Dundee.

Mr. Allan Stewart:

My Department is continuing to consider how expected patterns of demand for chiropody services might best be met. The creation of a new school of chiropody in Tayside would be one option, but others, such as some expansion of existing schools, are also being considered.

Mr. Ernie Ross asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average waiting time for chiropody treatment in Dundee and Scotland, respectively.

Mr. Allan Stewart:

This information is not held centrally.

Mr. Ernie Ross asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of chiropodists in Dundee and Scotland, respectively; and what is the ratio for each per 100,000 of population.

Mr. Allan Stewart:

Information is available centrally only on chiropodists who are employed by health boards in a full-time or part-time capacity and does not include those who provide services for boards on an agency basis, or those practising privately. The whole-time equivalent figures for chiropodists who were health board employees at March 1981 are as follows:
