§ Mr. Alton asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current level of unemployment among 16 to 20, 20 to 30, 30 to 40, 40 to 50 and 50 to 60-year-olds; how many people have been out of work for longer than one year, two years, three years, four years, five years, and more; and how many of the current year's school leavers have found jobs.
§ Mr. Peter Morrison [pursuant to his reply, 22 October 1981]: At 8 October, the provisional number of people registered as unemployed in the Liverpool travel-to-work area was 89,583 and the unemployment rate was 18.8 per cent. Percentage rates of unemployment for specific age groups are not available below national level in the absence of employee estimates by age for local areas. An analysis by duration of unemployment is made quarterly and the latest at present available is for July. The analysis includes, but does not separately distinguish, those unemployed for four years or over. The following is the available information for the Liverpool travel-to-work area at 9 July.

The following table gives seasonally adjusted estimates of the employed labour force for the United Kingdom for September from 1967 to 1980 and for June 1981: figures for September 1981 are not yet available.
