HC Deb 23 October 1981 vol 10 c216W

Mrs. RenéeM Short asked the Secretary of State for Employment why no special careers staff funded by his Department were allocated to Wolverhampton

Mr. Peter Morrison [pursuant to his reply, 21 October 1981]: Under my Department's scheme to strengthen the local education authority careers service to help deal with high unemployment, 12 posts, each of which attracts an allowance for clerical support, are currently allocated to Wolverhampton. Three of these posts were allocated under the increase in the scheme provided nationally as from April this year.

When a further increase was provided nationally from October, it was judged that on this occasion the limited additional help which could be made available should be allocated to other authorities. The Wolverhampton authority recognised the difficulties in deciding upon the recent allocation and requested that in the event of additional resources becoming available their needs would be considered again. We have, in fact, undertaken to review the position nationally for 1982–83 and this will, of course, include Wolverhampton.
