HC Deb 22 October 1981 vol 10 c163W

Dame Judith Hartasked the Lord Privy Seal if he will give details of the aid programme to India, including disbursements in 1979 and 1980, commitments for 1981 and 1982 and the projects agreed between Her Majesty's Government and the Government of India for future expenditure.

Mr. Luce:

The cost of our aid programme to India was £122.5 million in financial year 1979-80 and £140 million in 1980–81. It is not the normal practice to give figures of planned future aid expenditure in particular countries. Amongst the more important projects for which we have agreed to provide finance are projects for fertiliser plants, family planning, foot and mouth disease vaccine and in the coal and power sectors. We have also agreed in principle, subject to appraisal, to contribute towards the finance for a new steel plant.
