HC Deb 21 October 1981 vol 10 c139W

Mr. Hannam asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people were removed from the disabled persons register from October 1979 to October 1980 because they were classified as being unable to work, and what percentage this was of the total register.

Mr. Peter Morrison [pursuant to his reply, 20 October 1981]: The register established under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act 1944 is maintained at individual jobcenters and employment offices and there are no comprehensive national statistics on the numbers of people removed from the disabled persons register because they are unable to work.

However, the Manpower Services Commission estimates that the number of such cases is very small and is unlikely to alter significantly the total register of disabled people.
