HC Deb 21 October 1981 vol 10 c140W

Sir Patrick Wall asked the Lord Privy Seal what consultations were held with the United States delegation to the United Nations prior to the vote on the Angolan matters concerning South Africa; and what conclusions were reached.

Mr. Luce:

During the meeting of the Security Council which considered the complaint of the Angolan Government against the Government of South Africa, the usual consultations took place between the United States and the United Kingdom delegations. The reasons for the United Kingdom abstention on the draft resolution were given in my reply to my hon. Friend on 19 October.
