HC Deb 20 October 1981 vol 10 c96W
24. Mr. Colin Shepherd

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has had concerning whether consultants' contracts in the National Health Service should be held at regional or district level.

Mr. Fowler:

There have been some 845 representations from individuals and groups in the health services and elsewhere on this matter. Following these I have decided that regional health authorities and those districts designated for teaching will hold these contracts after 1 April 1982, and I have written to the chairmen of regional health authorities and the leaders of the professions informing them of this.
