Mr. Cadbury

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what will have been the average annual increase in the cost to British Leyland of Sir Michael Edwardes' salary and pension contribution over the period of his chairmanship of the company.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin:

The cost to BL of Sir Michael Edwardes' remuneration will have increased at an annual rate of 5.1 per cent. compound over the five year period of his service, excluding early retirement arrangements. BL's auditors have verified this figure.
