§ Sir Bernard Braine
asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many enforcement notices were served by the Health and Safety Executive on ships entering the Thames Estuary, giving prohibition notices separately and indicating whether hazardous cargoes were being carried, in each of the years from 1976 to the latest convenient date in 1981.

§ Mr. Waddington:
From 1 January 1976 to 13 October 1981, 25 enforcement notices were served on ships entering the Thames Estuary. All were carrying hazardous cargoes. The numbers of notices served each year were:

1976–78 1979 1980 1981

Improvement Notices Nil 17 2 Nil
