The cost of mortgage tax relief and option mortgage subsidy in England in 1980–81 was £1,990 million.

§ Mr. Stanley:The latest available figures are that in 1980–81 local authorities in England received £1,400.6 million in Exchequer subsidies for local authority dwellings and £349.9 million from the Exchequer in rent rebate subsidy at outturn prices. In addition, rate fund contributions to housing revenue accounts totalled £441.2 million and to rent rebates £123 million.
