Mr. Winnick

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will state the latest figures for the total subsidy given for local authority housing and for all tax relief-related schemes concerning owner-occupation and other payments which go to some owner-occupiers.

Mr. Stanley:

Total subsidy for local authority housing in England in 1980–81 was £2,314.7 million. Details are given in a separate written answer today to the hon. Member.

The cost of mortgage tax relief and option mortgage subsidy in England in 1980–81 was £1,990 million.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will state the latest figures for the total subsidy given for local authority housing, excluding supplementary benefit payments.

Mr. Stanley:

The latest available figures are that in 1980–81 local authorities in England received £1,400.6 million in Exchequer subsidies for local authority dwellings and £349.9 million from the Exchequer in rent rebate subsidy at outturn prices. In addition, rate fund contributions to housing revenue accounts totalled £441.2 million and to rent rebates £123 million.
