HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 c87W
Mr. Winnick

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what percentage of council tenants has applied to purchase their dwellings in the areas of the country where disturbances have recently occurred.

Mr. Stanley:

The most serious disturbances took place in Brixton, Southall, Moss Side, and Toxteth, which lie within the London boroughs of Lambeth and Ealing, and the cities of Manchester and Liverpool respectively. The information requested is available only for the whole of each local authority. On this basis, the percentages, based on right to buy applications under the Housing Act 1980 received by the end of June and the stock of occupied dwellings held by each local authority under Part V of the Housing Act 1957, were as follows:

Local Authority Per cent.
Lambeth London Borough Council 2.8
Ealing London Borough Council 6.7
Manchester City Council 5.9
Liverpool City Council 7.1
