HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 c60W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the incidence of epilesy in Scotland.

Mr. Allan Stewart:

As epilepsy is not a notifiable disorder no information is held centrally about the number of persons in Scotland suffering from it and it is not possible to make a reliable estimate.

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what funds his Department is giving to sponsor research work into the causes and treatment of epilepsy; and if he intends to increase them.

Mr. Allan Stewart:

No research into epilepsy is currently being supported by my Department or by the Scottish Hospitals Endowment Research Trust. However, funds for research in this field are available from the Department for applications of adequate scientific merit.
