HC Deb 19 October 1981 vol 10 cc59-60W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the number of those in Scotland with Down's syndrome; and if he will express the figure per 100,000 of population.

Mr. Allan Stewart:

No firm figures are available; but data from a recent general practice survey combined with hospital statistics suggest that there are about 2,100 persons with Down's syndrome in Scotland, giving a rate of about 41 per 100,000.
