§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps are being taken to develop teaching aids and techniques in computer studies and the use of microelectronics within teacher training colleges and the education departments of universities and polytechnics; and what special funding, if any, is being provided by his Department for those purposes.
§ Mr. William Shelton:The microelectronics education programme announced by my hon. Friend on 4 March 1980 will be developing teacher training materials and methods of in-service training in this field. It is likely that up to one-third of the total resources available for the programme will be used for this purpose, and I hope that training institutions of all kinds will be able to participate. Computer studies will be one of the topics covered, but the programme is also concerned with the applications of microelectronics and the use of micor-computers in a number of other subjects.
