Mr. John Grant

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many staff were employed by the Boundaries Commission on 1 September, or at the nearest appropriate date, in (a)1978, (b)1979, (c)1980 and (d)1981; how many of these were full-time, part-time or temporary; what at each date was the authorised complement; and if he will estimate the figures for 31 December 1981.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when authority was last given for an increase in the staff of the Boundaries Commission; and with what effect.

Mr. Mayhew:

On 15 July 1981 the permitted complement of staff common to the Boundary Commissions for England and Wales was raised from 16 to 18. This increase has since been achieved.
