Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the allocation in both revenue and capital terms to each area health board in the latest year; and what was the expenditure in both cases.

The latest year for which both allocation and expenditure figures are available is 1980–81. These are as follows—

Boards receive a single allocation of funds to meet their revenue and capital expenditure commitments (apart from major capital projects which are funded centrally) and are free to move resources between the two programmes.

Allocations to health boards are to meet the cost of providing hospital and community health services.
