§ Mr. Marksasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) how many objections to the Manchester local education authority's proposals for secondary school reorganisation had been received when his Department called in the proposals; and if he will now announce his decision on them;
(2) if he will publish his decision on Manchester local education authority's proposals on secondary school reorganisation in time for the proposals to take effect in September 1982.
§ Dr. BoysonAs the hon. Member now knows, my right hon. Friend announced on 13 November that he had rejected the authority's proposals. Its proposals were published on 22 January 1981 and notice was given on 28 January under section 12(5)(a) of the Education Act 1980 that they would require the decision of the Secretary of State. In accordance with the Act, objections were made to the authority, which submitted them with its comments on 22 April.
