HC Deb 17 November 1981 vol 13 cc101-2W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he is satisfied that the Government and other institutions are doing enough to promote the idea of non-sectarian integrated education in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

The Government have made it clear on many occasions that they will encourage integrated education wherever there is a local wish for it and will support practical proposals put forward in response to local wishes. However, there is no question of forcing integration on anyone who does not want it. I am satisfied that, within this policy, the Government are doing everything they can to promote the idea of integrated education.
