HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 c252W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what reductions have taken place in the statistical services available to his Department; what statistics previously available will either (a) no longer be available, or (b) be available in a modified form; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waddington

For a list of reductions in statistics already made since May 1979 and details of further reductions now proposed, I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East (Mrs. Short) on 11 May 1981.—[Volume 4, c. 161–62.]

Full details of proposed changes in statistical services, following the review of the Government Statistical Service co-ordinated by Sir Derek Rayner, were published for information and comment from users, on 15 April in an action report "Review of statistical services in Department of Employment and Manpower Services Commission". This report was also reproduced in the May issue of the Employment Gazette. In addition, details of the possible changes in the compilation of unemployment statistics were published in the April issue.
