HC Deb 29 June 1981 vol 7 cc251-2W
Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will institute an inquiry to examine whether firms are seeking academic qualifications at the expense of the ability to do the job.

Mr. Peter Morrison

No. My Department has the results of research into the experience of young people in the labour market which shows that in general undue emphasis is not being placed by firms on academic qualifications as a means of recruitment.
