§ Mr. HurdThe Arab League follow-up committee for Lebanon met near Beirut on 7–8 June. It examined practical measures which might allow the process of national reconciliation to begin and recorded the willingness of all parties to cease fire. The committee is to meet again on 4 July with a preparatory meeting on 23 June. The United States emissary, Mr. Philip Habib, returned to the Middle East on 9 June to continue his efforts to help negotiate a solution to the dispute between Syria and Israel over the deployment of Syrian missiles in Lebanon.
