Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will provide separate statistic s for the careers office and for the jobcentre in Wythenshawe of the numbers of young people aged under 19 years (a) known to have entered real jobs in the past year, (b) placed on the youth opportunities programme in the last 12 months, (c) on the youth opportunities programme at the latest date and (d) unemployed at the latest date, providing a breakdown of periods of unemployment (i) less than six months (ii) 6–12 months and (iii) over 12 months.

[pursuant to his reply, 11 June 1981, c. 97]The numbers of young people under 19 years are as follows(a) the following number were placed in jobs by the careers service and jobcentre in Wythenshawe in 1980–81. Careers Office—288 Jobcentre—159 Information about the total number entering real jobs in 1980–81 is not available but an estimate is that 25 per cent. were placed by the careers service and jobcentre.
