asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the average industrial wage in Northern Ireland in 1971; and what is the latest available figure, figures to be given in cash terms and in real terms taking the 1971 figure as 100.

[pursuant to his reply, 17 April 1981]: In April 1971 the average wage in manufacturing industry in Northern Ireland was £29.30 for men and £14.60 for women. The corresponding figure for April 1980 were £111.30 for men and £66.40 for women. In real terms, taking the 1971 figure as 100, the index for men is 115.5 and for women 138.3.
