HC Deb 18 June 1981 vol 6 c423W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give his best estimate of the number of persons in the United Kingdom suffering from severe allergy and associated ailments; if he will give the distribution of such numbers by age groups and sex; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

There are many different allergies and they are variously treated, where this is possible, by general practitioners and by hospital physicians. There are no central statistics from which a reliable estimate of the number of sufferers can be derived.
