HC Deb 17 June 1981 vol 6 c370W
7. Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the aggregate cost to public funds to date of all grants, loans and subsidies given and pledged to Stonefield Vehicles and its successors, and what is the number currently employed in that business.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

Until the affairs of Stonefield Vehicles Limited have been finally wound up, it is not possible to give a precise answer. However, the total cost to the Scottish Development Agency in terms of equity, loans and guarantees is expected to be around £5 million. In addition, regional development grants totalling £116,858 were paid to the company, and an offer of assistance under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972 has been made to the successor company, Gomba UK, for which the Scottish Development Agency is providing a rent-free period.

Stonefield currently employs about 50 people.
