HC Deb 15 June 1981 vol 6 c249W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, pursuant to his reply of 8 June to the hon. Member for Southend, East on the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce, why the annual report for 1979 of the Intervention Board, Cmnd. 7942, records in paragraphs 2.12 and 2.13 the quantities of apples, pears, cauliflowers and tomatoes that were withdrawn from the market in accordance with the market support arrangements for the withdrawal of certain fresh fruit and vegetables and the payments made by the board in 1979 to finance these withdrawals from the market.

Mr. Peter Walker

Because the board pays compensation to producer organisations which do withdraw fruit and vegetables from the market.
