Mr. David Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the numbers and percentages of unemployed persons for each travel-to-work area in county Durham at the last date for which figures are available.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons were, in May, supported in employment in the Consett and Stanley travel-to-work area by the temporary short-time working compensation scheme.

The figures for May are not yet available. However, in the Consett travel-to-work area, which comprises the Consett and Stanley employment office areas, the number of jobs stated to be at risk in the applications from companies that were current in April 1981 were 218.
