§ Q44. Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Prime Minister if she is satisfied with the resources being made available by the Government to improve facilities for better screening and health care for women.
§ The Prime MinisterIn "Care in Action", which was published recently, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services placed great emphasis on prevention. There are two screening programmes specially directed at women. On screening for cervical cancer, the main problem is to ensure that the resources which are available are utilised by those women to whom screening would be of most benefit. Large-scale trials are in progress to establish the efficacy of screening for breast cancer.
