HC Deb 11 June 1981 vol 6 c212W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many persons were injured by drivers who were not in possession of a valid insurance policy, which resulted in these persons not being compensated for their injuries in 1978, 1979 and 1980.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I am not aware of any person who has been deprived of compensation for injuries solely because of the absence of insurance. Payment of due compensation for people injured by uninsured drivers is guaranteed by the uninsured drivers' agreement between my right hon. Friend and the Motor Insurers' Bureau under which the bureau is required to meet any unsatisfied judgment against a negligent driver.
